TOEFL® ITP scores are a convenient and accurate predictor of English proficiency, and an indicator of progress in language learning
Academic and curriculum coordinators can use the TOEFL® ITP for numerous internal decisions:
To place individuals in appropriate English courses
To assess the progress of students, by testing language proficiency at the beginning and end of the course
To evaluate programme effectiveness and in assessing faculty performance, by using the tests to measure students’ progress
To screen applicants for exchange programmes or scholarships
In awarding academic credits
To fulfil a language requirement
As a mock exam to indicate how students could expect to perform on the more formal TOEFL® test
Since TOEFL® ITP test forms have been administered before, and are hence not fully secure, they should not be used for admission purposes or substituted for TOEFL® scores themselves.
