The TOEFL® ITP (Institutional Testing Programme), derived from the paper-based TOEFL® test, is a low-tech and cost-effective method of testing groups of students of any size within classrooms – it is therefore flexible, and facilitates instructor ease of use. TOEFL® ITP consists of previously administered TOEFL® test forms that can be administered within institutions and simply returned to ETS for scoring.
Uses of the TOEFL® ITP:
To place students in appropriate English courses,
To assess progress from the beginning to the end of a course,
As a practice test that provides an indication of how students could expect to do on the more formal TOEFL®,
As a motivational tool for students who hope to improve their language level enough to take the TOEFL® later.
